About Ballet Better

We are excited to announce that we offer Silver Swans® classes!

Developed by the Royal Academy of Dance, this program is based on research into dance practice for older learners and classes can only be taught by Silver Swans® Licensees.

Whether you’ve never danced before or want to get back into the swing of it, our Silver Swans® classes have something for everyone!

Ballet Better is for everybody over 40 to discover the benefits of ballet and feel better for it. The focus is on core strength exercise, coordination, balance and expression through music, stretching and toning in a group class. All set in a caring environment with a fabulous café for coffee/tea afterwards.

A new experience for women and men over 40 who would like to learn something new to celebrate the body you’ve been gifted whilst exploring the world of Ballet and Dance.

The classes are accessible within your community and are to strengthen existing relationships and form new ones through shared experiences.

More about Lucy

Miss Lucy began dancing at 2.5 years at her local dance school by Mrs Williams and was a Junior Associate of the Central School of Ballet and taught by Carole Gable. She then went on to study at the Hammond School a Vocational Ballet School in Chester.

She was then accepted onto the Royal Ballet Schools Teacher Training Course at the age of 16 and graduated in 1993 as Deputy Head Girl and was awarded the prestigious Jean Bedells prize. The course was considered to one of the best in the world for teacher training and included study in RAD ballet, Cecchetti Ballet, ISTD National, Benesh Notation, Classical Spanish, Contemporary, Music Appreciation, Anatomy, Character, Repertoire, and Pilates. Lucy also studied the Vaganova Method in her holidays.

Since then she taught at the Balletakademien, Goteborg, Sweden and Dance World, Bari, Italy before returning to London to study at London Contemporary Dance School where she was taught by Juliet Fisher and performed in works by emerging Choreographers. Later after teaching at Doreen Bird and freelancing for various schools, she founded her own ballet school.

Lucy created a Dance Programme (movement to music) for children 18 months to 3 years for Parents/Carers and their son/daughter to dance together which was developed on her Nephew……..now a grown man and of course a fabulous dancer! This course was the starting point for some of Miss Lucy’s ballet school Alumni now studying at Vocational Ballet Schools such as Elmhurst and the Royal Ballet School.

Lucy continues to study the training of Classical Ballet and gained her teaching certificate from American Ballet Theatre New York and was taught and examined by Raymond Lukas the curriculums creator and most recently she has become an RAD Silver Swans teacher… which she loves!
